Immigration fees and taxes departing by ferry from Chetumal (Mexico) to Caye Caulker (Belize)

Image
Fees/taxes leaving Mexico for Belize by Ferry These are the notice posted at the ferry terminal in May 2018 from Chetumal to Caye Caulker. Most of the backpackers we were with argued against paying the fees, some had printed proof they had paid the taxes on their way into Mexico by flight. We all paid it in the end so make sure you have enough cash to do so. There was an ATM close to the main road but it might be a bit problematic if your card doesn't work. An alternative to making payment to the immigration officer is to go to the bank and return with a receipt (no one took this option). Once we paid, our passports were stamped and we did not get a receipt. There are fees payable entering Belize as well. You get a receipt for paying this.

Bus Timetable and prices San Gil, Barichara and Guane, Colombia

Here is the timetable and info on prices. Photo taken at the Barichara office for Cootrasagil on 24 July 2018. Wish we had known there were later busses coming from San Gil in the first place so we could have spent more time at the canyon on the way! Lonely Planet, you have let us down again in Colombia :( San Gil to Barichara = 45 minutes Barichara to Guane = 15 minutes

Walking Tour - Cartagena old town, Colombia

First stop in Colombia, beautiful Cartagena! Cartagena, our first stop in Colombia! We loved doing free walking tours when we were in Europe and were delighted to find these tours to be available again in South America!  Accomodation We stayed just outside the old town walls which was a fantastic. It is significantly cheaper than staying within the walls. A lot of backpackers stay in Gesemini but again, we didn´t find great private room options there and dorm beds were very expensive in comparison.  Free Tour Cartagena We booked to go with ¨Free Tour Cartagena¨which comes highly recommended by other bloggers. I found the tour guide to be very knowledgable and friendly. However, the group had about 40 people which made it difficult for us to hear everything the guide had to say along the way. It was also difficult to ask questions. The tour started with a time wasting exercise of the guide asking for everyone´s names, where we are all from and with him guessing all...
